Survey Comments - Adopting Sustainable Practices

SURVEY QUESTION: What prompted you to adopt sustainable management practices?

• I think it is the right thing to do and combined with proper marketing it makes economic sense.

• A general belief that sustainable practices are good for the vine, wine quality, the environment and in some cases saves money.

• Being able to present a consumer friendly product.

• Desire to see the Washington wine industry thrive and flourish.

• Environmental issues -  soils being the lifeblood of the vine,  which relays to above vine health and air issues and then logically to all environmental issues.

• To make our grape more desirable and our land more natural.

• I am a sole proprietorship growing grapes on my own property with my home.  When I pass on, I want to know that I have left a viable farm for my son.

• I am still adopting a plan, however more than anything else, keeping the soil healthy (i.e. micro-organisms, fungi, etc.) helps everything and will keep costs lower and quality up.

• It's the right thing to do. We as farmers need to produce products that are of health value and protect the environment that we live in for the future.

• Our vineyards are family owned.  I want to preserve this resource for future generations.

• To keep my business viable and my employees satisfied.

• Upper management is totally in favor of sustainable practices. Want to be leaders no followers in this area. Want to lead by example.

• Worker safety concerns, reduced  chemical inputs, marketing advantages.

• Simply, its the right thing to do.
